Introducing Our New Skill Assessment Competency Levels

Casey Leisure is excited to introduce our updated Skill Assessment Competency Levels across our swim program. 

These new competency levels have been designed to give parents and students a clearer understanding of progression, helping you better track how skills are developing over time. 

While the skills themselves have not changed, the way we assess and communicate progress has been refined to provide more clarity, consistency, and meaningful feedback. 

 What’s Changing? 

Each skill your child works on will now be assessed using one of five competency levels. These levels reflect how confidently and consistently your child can perform each skill. 

 Things to Note: 

• Progression isn’t always linear 
  Your child does not need to move through every competency level. If a teacher believes your child has exceeded earlier stages, they may progress through levels more quickly. 

• Starting a new level 
  When your child moves into a new level, all skills will begin as “New Skill”, allowing time to learn and become familiar before being assessed. 

• Advancing Skill (See Notes) 
  If your child is close to achieving a skill but still needs small adjustments, teachers will leave notes in the parent portal. These may include specific feedback or drills you can practice outside of lessons. 

• Previous competency system 
  Our previous levels were: Introduced, Progressing, Experienced. The new system provides more detail and clearer progression.
