Casey Stadium recently hosted the sixth instalment of the Indoor Cricket National Championships (ICNC), welcoming teams from across Australia for two weeks of intense competition. The event, supported by major partner City of Casey, saw 59 teams representing their states and territories compete for national titles across 10 divisions.
The championship, which concluded last Saturday, featured a staggering 298 matches over the fortnight. The first week saw open age players compete in men’s, women’s, and under 22 categories, culminating in a day of Grand Finals on July 6th. The second week, starting July 7th, saw 38 junior teams competing across six divisions until the finals on July 13th.
Several notable achievements marked this year’s championships:
- The Victorian Under 14 Boys secured their first national title since 2016
- Queensland’s Under 18 Boys claimed their first championship since 2018
- Queensland’s Under 22 Men won their first national title since 2018
With nearly 900 players, coaches, managers, physios, umpires, and event staff in action, the event drew a large crowd to Casey Stadium, as families and friends travelled to Cranbourne to support their teams. This influx of visitors provided a significant boost to local hotels, restaurants, and businesses throughout the two-week period.
The championships showcased the best of indoor cricket, featuring high-intensity skill, teamwork, and determination from all participants. A celebration of the sport was held on July 6th, which included the induction of new Hall of Fame members, recognition of the 2024 teams’ successes, and the announcement of national squads.
Casey Stadium would like to extend its gratitude to all the passionate volunteers, umpires, coaches, managers, trainers, venue staff, and supporters who contributed to the success of this event. Their dedication and hard work were instrumental in making the Indoor Cricket National Championships a resounding success.
As the dust settles on another thrilling championship, Casey Stadium looks forward to continuing its support of indoor cricket and hosting more exciting events in the future.
